"Own your natural hair, don't let it own you."~ Andrea Anderson

If you're always on the go and you want to make sure your natural hair is looking fly, then you must read this quick tip. I just love for my hair to look good when I go anywhere so I have to make sure I take proper care of it. So remember the Big braids that Whoopi Goldberg wore in the color purple. Yes the color purple! Those big braids that everybody just hates for their boyfriend to see them in. Well with the right moisture and big braids, you can have the waves of your life! This one of my favorite and styles and it just looks so good. So here are some quick steps on how to achieve this style.
  1. Wet your hair and apply some kind of moisturizer and oil. Make sure that your hair is good and moisturized all the way through.
  2. Part your hair the way you would like for your curls to fall
  3. Make thing braids all around your head
  4. Let hair fully dry. I usually prefer to do this at night because I love waking up with fresh curls.
  5. Unbraid hair and tease out or pull apart a little for volume and that boom base in you curls.
  6. Dress it up with a flower or scarf for extra flare!
Have everyone stopping, complimenting and asking you who does your hair. Believe it or not there are so many styles to do with natural hair, that once you get the hang of it you'll fall in love everyday. For more tips go to Drealane.com

3 Ways to Style a Fro

You must fall in love with your hair to live with it.
 ~ Andrea Anderson

There are many different  styles to do with fro hair and today I'm going to give you some basic tips on how to style yours. I really love the fact that fro hair is so fluffy and can be manipulated into such beautiful styles. Going natural is a huge step and you must fall in love with it to be able to live with it. So if you read my previous article I informed you about how to keep your moisturized. This is the most important step to keeping your hair healthy.

Styling your hair comes with just a pinch of imagination that I'm sure we all have. For some of us this is a stretch but definitely can be done. Some of the most slickest hair styles are done with just a few simple tricks

Things you will need to style your fro are a comb, rubber band and some direction on what you want to do. Have your supplies ready when styling your hair so you wont have to move around while styling.

  • Afro puffs are simple and very easy to achieve. Just get a rubber band or ponytail holder and select the placement of were you want your puff to be. Once puff is in place, slick down sides with moisturizer and brush down with Boar brush ( soft bristle brush). I like to set my hair at night with water ,moisturizer and a satin cap so that it lays down.
  • Fro hawk swoop and pinned up on the sides. You need bobby pins  and a comb for this style. Comb or brush hair to the middle of your head and pin the sides down. I f your hair is long in the front, swoop to one side and pin. This creates kind of a retro look that's timeless and simple.
  • braids and twists are essential for afro hair and lasts a few weeks. They are low maintenance and easy to do. If you don't know how to do two strand twist, look up some videos and you tube and practice. You'll be happy you did.

Ran Out of Natural Hairstyles?

Natural Hair Styles Unlimited
Hair can be whatever you want it to be because it begins with your imagination and practice. ~Andrea Anderson

Ran out of natural hairstyles to do??? Well never run out of natural hairstyles AGAIN!!! Drealane's Eccentric Hair Designs has all the styles you need and more! So many times I've ran into people that didn't know what to do with their hair. This is totally understandable but can be solved with just a little bit of imagination.
So you finally went natural and you're so proud of yourself! Your hair is healthy and  curly and you're ready for the journey ahead but... what are you supposed to do now. Well yeah you have a beautiful head of hair but what styles are you going to wear. This situation is what happened to me along my journey. I cut all my hair off and was devastated because of the huge change it brought to my over all appearance. I felt like I looked like a boy and it was a bit difficult for me to get used to. Well I didn't realize at the time that that was the easy part because when it's short you really don't have to do a lot to it.
So the longer it got the more I was able to grab it and wear different styles. This were my creativity played a huge part in my success. It's really simple if you think about it. An Afro is a style within itself. You wear it as it or pin it up onto a style or put it in a afro puff. Limitless beyond what you ever thought!

The key to Natural hair is good moisture. Your hair is like a plant and needs to well taken care of to see good results. I recommend the Bi weekly oil treatment. You can do this with olive oil or castor oil. Even if you don't have time for an oil treatment, make sure your hair has some kind of moisture in it daily. I recommend oil because it tends to stay in out hair a bit longer.

  • To retain the moisture make sure hair is wet when the oil applied.
  • Sleep with satin cap or satin pillow
  • Wear a protective style such as lose braids or twists to let hair rest in between aggressive styling like updos
  • Do a hot oil treatments every 2 weeks. After washing your hair, saturate hair in oil and apply shower cap. Sit under dryer for 10 minutes and rinse. This should hair retain moisture for @ least 2 weeks with proper care.
  • Make sure you are using Satin cap or pillow to retain moisture from hot oil treatment
